9/11 Events Happening in the Midlands to Honor the Heroes
South Carolina Remembers 9/11
This Sunday marks the 21st anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Communities across the country will be holding events to remember the victims and honor the heroes of that day.
In the Midlands, there will be several events to mark the anniversary.
9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at the State House
The City of Columbia will host a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at the State House on Sunday, September 11th at 8:30 a.m. The ceremony will include a wreath-laying, a moment of silence, and remarks from local officials.
9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Williams-Brice Stadium
The University of South Carolina will host a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday, September 10th. The event will benefit the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
Participants will climb the equivalent of 110 stories, the height of the World Trade Center towers. The event will begin at 8:46 a.m., the time that the first plane hit the North Tower.
9/11 Remembrance Service at Fort Jackson
Fort Jackson will host a 9/11 Remembrance Service on Sunday, September 11th at 10:00 a.m. The service will be held at the Solomon Center and will include a wreath-laying, a moment of silence, and remarks from local officials.
9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at the Lexington County Museum
The Lexington County Museum will host a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony on Sunday, September 11th at 2:00 p.m. The ceremony will include a wreath-laying, a moment of silence, and remarks from local officials.

The Newberry Opera House will host a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony on Sunday, September 11th at 3:00 p.m. The ceremony will include a wreath-laying, a moment of silence, and remarks from local officials.
