Notre Dame Run Game Was Dominant In The Victory Over Purdue

Notre Dame Run Game Was Dominant In The Victory Over Purdue

Offensive Line Paved the Way

Notre Dame's offensive line was the catalyst for the team's success on the ground. The unit, led by All-American candidate Jarrett Patterson, controlled the line of scrimmage and created huge holes for the running backs to run through.

The Irish ran the ball 43 times for 255 yards, an average of 5.9 yards per carry. They also scored three touchdowns on the ground.

Estime and Tyree Lead the Way

Running backs Audric Estime and Logan Diggs led the way for the Irish on the ground. Estime carried the ball 18 times for 109 yards and a touchdown, while Diggs added 12 carries for 77 yards and two touchdowns.

Estime and Diggs were able to find holes in the Purdue defense all night long. They were also able to break tackles and gain extra yards after contact.

Purdue Defense Had No Answer

The Purdue defense had no answer for Notre Dame's running game. The Boilermakers were unable to generate any consistent pressure on quarterback Drew Pyne, and they were also unable to stop the Irish running backs.

Purdue's defense was ranked 92nd in the country against the run coming into the game, and they did nothing to improve that ranking on Saturday.

Notre Dame's Run Game is a Major Threat

Notre Dame's running game is a major threat to opposing defenses. The Irish have a talented group of running backs, and they have an offensive line that is capable of creating holes for them to run through.

If Notre Dame can continue to run the ball effectively, they will be a tough team to beat in 2022.
